Reason for Hope

04 Jan

1 Peter 3:15 NIV

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

*rev·er·ence noun; a feeling or attitude of deep respect tinged with awe; veneration.

I hold Jesus Christ in high regard. I worship Him and I am in awe of His continuing work in the world. I feel Jesus’ closeness throughout the day and I trust the guidance he gives me. Sometimes this causes my friends and aquaintences to ask questions.

I love to be in conversation with others. But I wonder, can we have an answer without knowing all the answers? If someone asks us about our faith, can we share what we know without being ashamed that we do not know it all?

When we are asked about our faith we can share our personal experience of Jesus’ love and God’s provision in our lives without needing to defend God.

Others may challenge my faith or question my belief, but it is not up to me to provide a defense for God. In fact, if I try to defend God, I may end up offending my friend. So, I just share my own experience of God’s presence and activity in my life and I pray that others would have that same hopeful, life-giving experience.
