Good Power

11 Jan

Nahum 1:13 NIV

Now I will break their yoke from your neck and tear your shackles away.”

There are many positive examples for the use of yokes. They give animals the ability to work together. Being yoked to Christ is a positive thing as He will lead us lovingly. But we know that all too often yokes are a symbol and tool of bondage. Yokes can make people do things against their will.

These negative images of yokes are the ones that God wants to break. The people of Judah are in bondage and the Lord wants them to live in freedom. We are not called to be slaves or servants of anyone, so God will break the shackles of bondage.

God’s desire for Judah and for us is that we would discover and claim His Good News for our lives. He proclaims peace and invites us to celebrate!

Once we are freed from the negative yokes of bondage, then we are able to share the good news of freedom and offer that same jope to others. As verse 15 says, “Look, there on the mountains, the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace! Celebrate your festivals, Judah, and fulfill your vows.”
